Hello Maverick Community,
Tomorrow (Tuesday, May 28th) begins our summer athletic season. I wanted to provide you all with some more information about what is planned.
Here is the link to the SVM Summer Calendar of events
Morning weights will be Tuesday - Thursday this week. Typically, sessions will run from 6:30 am until 7:35 am in Stapleton. (Majority of the weeks will be Monday - Thursday.)
Evening sessions will be available by appointment, if necessary, at both Tryon/Stapleton.
Session(s) will run 30-35 minutes.
Focus will be on maximizing strength, agility, and conditioning.
We want to be intentional with our time, and the time of the student athletes (due to jobs, family obligations, summer enjoyment, etc.)
The month of June will be focused on Basketball open gyms. Coaches from both programs will be in touch with athletes regarding scheduling. In July we will transition towards more work with fall sports (Volleyball, Football)
Cross Country runners will get weekly workouts posted online
Participation in summer activities is highly encouraged, but strictly voluntary. The purpose of a summer strength/conditioning and activity program is to provide athletes and teams with an opportunity to improve their individual preparation and performance for the fall/winter seasons.
I want it to be clear that the coaches are also giving up valuable time to be here to conduct these sessions. The entire athletic department believes in the importance of providing all of our student athletes with the opportunity to improve regardless of their personal interest in activities.
The strength training sessions are open to any Stapleton/McPherson County student regardless of their intention to participate in extracurricular athletic activities.
If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to Mr. Johnson at Stapleton Public Schools (308) 636-2252 or at jeremiah.johnson@stapletonschools.org
